Ambassador Committee – Tucson
As we near the end of the Q1, the thirteen Southern AZ Ambassadors are busy as usual. Our Partners in the Optics Valley Committee had a very successful Arizona Photonic Days thanks to John Dennis of Stategy1 (Ambassador and Optics Chair) followed by many of the members traveling to CA for Photonics West. AZTC co-hosted and attended the February after5 at Carf International with Winsor Consulting and most recently participated in the TENWEST Mega Mixer. March’s TechFocus podcast featured Mary Darling of Darling Geomatics.
Preparation is underway for the Aerospace, Aviation, Defense and Manufacturing Conference to be held at Pima College’s Aviation Tech Center in July and is chaired by Ambassador Sonia Vohnout of OppSpot LLC.
Our premier event of the year, is the Southern Arizona Tech + Business Expo in October. The committee is chaired by Ambassador Shelly Glandon of Blue Canoe Marketing. The Ambassador Committee is fleshing out the details to insure another outstanding event.

Optics Valley Committee
Optics Valley held its quarterly member meeting on March 24th. They welcomed their newest member companies, Micro-Hybrid Electronic and Fringe Metrology, and heard from the SEMI Foundation and the Israel-US Binational Industrial R&D (BIRD) Foundation about grant opportunities for the community. The committee will be working on plans for the International Day of Light Celebration in May and look forward to the April after5 Tech Mixer at Edmund Optics.

Every year is a good year for doing business in Arizona, but 2024 was exceptional even by Grand Canyon State standards. One of the key ingredients for this success was the more than $205 million in federal funding delivered through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to support Arizona’s burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) and battery industries.
