Arizona Technology Council Launches Aerospace, Aviation, Space, and Defense Committee

Inaugural Meeting Brings Together More Than 30 Industry Leaders to Strengthen Arizona’s Aerospace Ecosystem

 

PHOENIX, February 4, 2025 – The Arizona Technology Council proudly announces formation of its  Aerospace, Aviation, Space, and Defense (AASD) Committee, a dedicated initiative to unify and accelerate Arizona’s leadership in these critical industries. The committee convened with more than 30 key leaders from across the state’s aerospace, aviation and defense sectors at the inaugural meeting in December at offices of the Arizona Commerce Authority.

“Arizona has long been a powerhouse in aerospace, aviation and defense, and the launch of the AASD Committee solidifies our commitment to advancing these industries, said Steven G. Zylstra, president and CEO of the Council and SciTech Institute. “By bringing together leaders from across the state, we are fostering collaboration, driving innovation and strengthening Arizona’s position as a global leader in aerospace and defense technology.”

Co-chaired by Darren “DZ” Long and Jonathan Roll, the AASD Committee is committed to advancing industry priorities, workforce development, and strategic partnerships within Arizona’s aerospace and defense landscape. Long is vice chairman of Tucson Metro Chamber’s Military Affairs Committee and Roll is research and management analyst at Arizona State University’s NewSpace Initiative.

“Our mission with the AASD Committee is to unite Arizona’s aerospace ecosystem under a common vision, tackling challenges and inspiring opportunities,” said Long. “My passion stems from three decades in multiple sectors of these fields, and I know the impact of connected leadership. Together, we will shape a thriving ecosystem that supports innovation, creates opportunities and amplifies Arizona’s role in these critical industries.”

The AASD Committee invites industry professionals, academia and policymakers to engage in its upcoming meetings, networking opportunities and strategic discussions aimed at strengthening Arizona’s aerospace, aviation, space and defense industries.
