APS launches Going Green + Going Smart Program

Arizona Public Service Co. (APS) announced the launch of its Going Green & Going Smart Program, a free, virtual training portal that helps small business owners adopt sustainable business practices that save money, energy and attract environmentally minded consumers. The program is a statewide community effort that puts valuable sustainability resources and energy insights into the hands of small business owners across Arizona. The program includes pre-recorded sessions with sustainability experts and an on-demand certificate program that teaches how to implement sustainable business practices. Through video lessons, downloadable materials and knowledge checks, participants can access online resources offering insights from other sustainability programs and APS solutions. Read more >>


Intel appoints new chief diversity and inclusion officer 

Intel Corporation announced the appointment of Dawn Jones as chief diversity and inclusion officer (CDIO) and vice president of social impact. Jones is a 24-year Intel veteran and will lead the company’s global diversity and inclusion strategy as well as Intel’s investments and programs driving positive global impact. This includes prioritizing cross-company and industrywide initiatives to achieve Intel’s ambitious 10-year 2030 RISE Strategy.

Tech Parks Arizona continues to break ground

Construction remains on track for The Bridges’ first building, The Refinery, a four-story building that will serve as The University of Arizona’s innovation and commercialization hub. UArizona will occupy 50% of the space at The Refinery, with the rest available to businesses looking to co-locate with the university’s expertise. Tech Parks Arizona operates interactive grounds for technology companies and university talent to collaborate and advance research. Beyond the new park The Bridges, they also operate the UA Tech Park at Rita Road and the UA Center for Innovation. These parks work to recruit companies and startups with connections to the UA to locate at their facilities.  Read more >>

ASU and Starbucks partner on new research and rapid innovation facility

Building its our long-standing partnership with Starbucks, Arizona State University is joining forces to create the Center for the Future of People and the Planet, a new research and rapid innovation facility based at Arizona State University. Scheduled to open in December 2021 on ASU’s Tempe campus, the ASU-Starbucks Center will be built on the same principle as the Starbucks Tryer Center — bringing ideas to action — supported by ASU’s applied research and on-campus test store ecosystem. Composed of a dedicated team of scientists, researchers, and support staff, including subject-matter experts from Starbucks and ASU, the center’s objective is to positively impact the future of our planet. UArizona establishes research institute with French center to solve global challenges

The University of Arizona and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) signed a research collaboration Wednesday that establishes the France-Arizona Institute for Global Grand Challenges at the university. The France-Arizona Institute for Global Grand Challenges will support University of Arizona-CNRS projects surrounding natural, social and digital grand challenges. The center will set out to lead five major grant-funded projects in its first five years to produce strong solutions to these global challenges. Read more >>

BlueYonder to be acquired by Panasonic for $7.1 billion

Panasonichas announced that its is buying supply-chain software provider Blue Yonder for $7.1 billion in a bid to accelerate its software business. Panasonic took a 20% stake in Blue Yonder in July 2020, deepening the companies’ relationship as they jointly develop digital technology for managing logistics, retail and manufacturing operations. Data-research group Gartner Inc. ranked Blue Yonder last year as the world’s third-largest provider in the supply-chain-management software market, based on 2019 revenue, behind SAP SE and Oracle Corp.
