The University of Arizona Center for Innovation (UACI) announced the UACI Sponsored Launch Fueled by the Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce competition. The winning life science-based startup company will receive a sponsored year’s admission into UACI at Oro Valley, the newest innovation ecosystem facility in Southern Arizona. One promising startup team will be presented with resources, facilities, services and expert guidance to grow their businesses sponsored by the Oro Valley Chamber.
Access to UACI provides the winning startup with a structured incubation program, customized business support and the ability to work alongside other startups in a fast-paced environment. UACI provides access to the people, programming and places needed to scale a business. Other tools the incubation program provides are office and lab space, assistance through a 27-point roadmap that helps them with creating a business plan, identifying a target market, product development, marketing resources and much more. Through a structured venture development program, the incubator helps entrepreneurs successfully launch into the market.
“Our Chamber believes Oro Valley has a bright future, and part of it is tied to the continued nurturing of life science startups that can succeed in the market,” said Dave Perry, president and CEO of the Oro Valley Chamber. “Our members recognize that when we support job creation, we influence our economic well-being. We’re pleased to do our small part.”
Application submissions opened on March 5 and close on April 2. After a review and interview process, the winning team will be announced on April 30. The team will then participate in the incubator program for one full year.
For this competition, UACI is seeking a startup in the life science sector with preference to locate in Northwest Tucson, the pursuit of a scalable business model, a minimum full-time two-person team with a commitment to commercializing their innovation, a demonstrated need for incubation services and a desire to make a significant difference in the local and global community through innovation. The winning startup team will be immersed in the UACI incubation program and have an office at the newest outpost of UACI at Oro Valley, supported by a generous contribution from the Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce.
