Republic Services announces new corporate headquarters in north Phoenix

Phoenix-based Republic Services Inc., one of the largest Arizona-based public companies, has picked a new mixed-use project in north Phoenix for the expansion of its U.S. headquarters just down the street from its current office.
The environmental services company (NYSE: RSG) announced Wednesday that it will expand its corporate headquarters in a proposed 240,000-square-foot space at the master-planned CityNorth adjacent to Desert Ridge Marketplace.
The company’s current headquarters is located at the Loop 101 and Mayo Boulevard in Phoenix at 18500 N. Allied Way. It is in the process of acquiring about 10 acres at CityNorth for its new state-of-the-art headquarters, according to the city of Phoenix.
The city also said that the recycling and waste management company wanted to expand its headquarters in Phoenix after a search involving multiple states and regions.
The proposed expansion will house 1,000 employees and create 600 new jobs over a 15-year period after the completion of its new office.
Incentives for new project approved
The city of Phoenix approved a development agreement with Republic Services and the developer of CityNorth, Crown Realty & Development, on Wednesday to reimburse the companies for public infrastructure improvements and performance-based job creation.
The agreement said the city will provide $2,500 to the company for each net new job created and located at, reporting to or taking oversight from the facility. The average annual salary of the 600 new jobs is also estimated at $97,000, city documents said. In total, the city’s reimbursement to Republic Services will not exceed $1.5 million for job creation.
For the developer, the city also plans to reimburse a maximum of $2.4 million for public infrastructure improvements including a traffic signal, streetlights, pedestrian amenities, landscaping and sidewalks.
“Keeping a company like Republic Services here in Phoenix drives our economy and builds our community,” said Christine Mackay, Phoenix economic development director, in a statement. “Prestigious recognition such as being named one of Fortune’s Most Admired Companies is a prime example of the top company caliber Phoenix attracts and we are proud to keep this company in the Valley.”
Republic Services, which merged with Phoenix-based Allied Waste in 2008, has about 2,100 jobs in Arizona and 40,000 employees across the U.S.
It operates 71 recycling processing centers and 206 active landfills across the country. In 2022, the company had a revenue of $13.5 billion, a net income of $1.48 billion and was listed as the fourth largest public company based in Arizona, according to Phoenix Business Journal research.
CityNorth is a 100-acre mixed-use project that has been in the works for several years by Irvine, California-based developer Crown Realty & Development. It’s slated for 1.5 million square feet of office space, 2,500 multifamily units, three hotels and multiple restaurants.
“We welcome Republic Services and its employees to our vibrant CityNorth project helping to create a true urban environment where those employees can enjoy walking to 50 plus restaurants and entertainment venues while being steps away from their home, family and friends living in the state-of-the-art CityNorth luxury residential project currently being developed,” said Rick Carpinelli, senior vice president of acquisition and development for Crown Realty Group, in a statement.
Bryan Taute, Ashley Brooks and Spencer Nast of CBRE Group Inc. are listed as the brokers representing Crown on the project website.
Republic Services will join another Arizona-based company that recently decided to relocate its headquarters to the north Phoenix area, Scottsdale-based Discount Tire Co. Discount Tire plans to develop a new office campus that could total 600,000 square feet just southwest of Desert Ridge Marketplace and CityNorth.
