New Way Academy is an Arizona Technology Council member located in Scottsdale, Arizona. A 501(c)(3) organization, New Way has a long history of effectively and compassionately educating children with learning differences. Founded in 1968, New Way is the premier independent day school approved by the Arizona Department of Education dedicated solely to educating students with language-based learning differences, such as dyslexia, ADHD, Asperger’s Syndrome, and executive functioning difficulties. Its mission is to educate children with learning differences to fulfill their potential. Therefore, New Way is committed to meeting the specific learning needs of its students and teaches the way each child learns. As a result, New Way students associate learning not with failure, but with success, and develop into confident life-long learners who lead enhanced, productive lives and serve as positive examples of what individuals with learning differences can achieve.
Imagine going to school every day knowing that you were going to feel like a failure. Imagine, every time you open a book, attempt a worksheet, or try to take notes, the words don’t make sense. You start to feel anxious, uncomfortable, and you don’t know what you’re doing wrong; your classmates perceive you as dumb; and all too often, teachers perceive you as lazy. Unfortunately, this is the reality for thousands of kids across Arizona with learning differences; kids who, through no fault of their own, learn and process information differently, leading them to have a difficult time reading, writing, doing math, or developing friendships. New Way Academy exists to support these kids, students who have average to above average intelligence, but need additional support to learn and unlock their potential.
New Way Academy is not a traditional independent school; rather we serve the unique learners in the community. There is an overwhelming demand for the kind of individualized education New Way provides students who struggle to learn or socialize with their peers. Recent estimates suggest that approximately 56,000 students in Arizona have diagnosed learning differences. At New Way Academy, we are currently able to support 136 students, with a goal to grow to a capacity of 200 students on one campus, and additional campuses in future years.
In order to do this, we need your help. Approximately 40% of our students are currently on need-based financial aid, and this number continues to grow. By contributing your Arizona tax credit to New Way Academy, you will allow us to provide additional need-based financial aid to students with learning differences, meaning that more kids with learning differences will have access to the kind of education they need to succeed. The best part? It doesn’t cost you a dime.
What’s a tax credit? It is a dollar for dollar credit on your Arizona income taxes, meaning that you essentially reduce what you owe to the state of Arizona by redirecting your tax liability to provide need-based scholarships at New Way Academy. Here’s how it works;
- For tax year 2012, married couples filing jointly can donate up to $2,006. Single, married filing separately or heads of households can donate up to $1,003.
- You have until April 15, 2013 to contribute your tax credit for the 2012 tax year.
- Donate online or call New Way Academy at 480-946-9112 to contribute your tax credit.
- You receive a tax credit donation receipt by mail, which you take to your tax advisor. Your tax credit is applied to the amount you owe in Arizona Income taxes.
- For example, if your state income tax liability is $2,500 and you contribute the maximum $2,006 for married couples filing jointly, your income tax payment is reduced to $494. You are diverting part of your tax obligation to student scholarships at New Way Academy.
