Quarles & Brady law firm unveils new brand name

Phoenix Business Journal

Quarles & Brady LLP, one of the five-largest law firms operating in Arizona, has unveiled a new brand name: Quarles.

The law firm, which is headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, said Thursday the new brand includes a new logo featuring a contemporary red slash, which the firm said maintains a connection to Quarles’ past brand identity. The firm also debuted a new website and what it called important technical updates designed to help clients and other visitors more effectively connect with Quarles attorneys.

In its announcement, Quarles called the change a “brand evolution” that reinforces the firm’s “dedication to understanding the business goals of its clients and offering practical, timely guidance to help them solve problems and stay ahead of the curve.”

“Quarles’ deep commitment to our clients, our people and our communities has always been, and will continue to be, how we define ourself as a firm,” managing partner Michael Aldana said in a statement. “We do best when those we serve do best – that’s our goal and our purpose. Our new branding and website reflect and reinforce those commitments and help position the firm for continued success into the future.”

The firm’s full legal name will remain Quarles & Brady LLP.

A crew working with a helicopter removed the firm’s iconic signage from its Milwaukee headquarters in November. Adjacent streets again will be closed and access limited to the 411 E. Wisconsin Center during the new sign installation scheduled for Dec. 17.

Quarles is tied with Fennemore as the third-largest law firm in Arizona based on number of local attorneys at its Phoenix and Tucson offices, according to Phoenix Business Journal research. The firm’s total headcount at its two Arizona offices is 164.

Brad Vynalek, the firm’s president who works out of the Phoenix office, said the firm’s business in Arizona has been growing quickly.

“[Arizona] has emerged as a more mature and diversified market. Both entrepreneurs and enterprise companies want to be here. We see a lot of growth here in the long term,” Vynalek told the Business Journal.

He said the firm is seeing growth in the Valley among four key segments: real estate — “that’s always been a steeple for us but it’s really been on fire,” he said — plus M&A, health care and life sciences.

As for what may be around the corner in 2023 with talk of a recession, Vynalek said clients are nonetheless maintaining a certain level of optimism.

“Companies are looking for certainty. [They] may have slowed down a bit more and staying on the sidelines but what’s unique is they are positioning themselves for the next opportunities,” Vynalek told the Business Journal.

Quarles said it has more than doubled in size since 1992 and employs a team of approximately 480 attorneys across 10 offices in the United States. Besides Milwaukee, Phoenix and Tucson, the firm has offices in Madison, Wisconsin; Chicago; Indianapolis; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and two in Florida: Tampa and Naples.
