Arizona Technology Council wins IMPACT Business of the Year and Exceptional Innovator Awards

Council Recognized for its Positive Influence on Arizona Innovation, Public Policy and Overall Economic Growth

In recognition of its continuous efforts to embody the spirit of entrepreneurialism and innovation in Arizona, the Arizona Technology Council announced it is a winner of the prestigious 2021 IMPACT Business of the Year and Exceptional Innovator Award in the Small to Medium Business Category from the Greater Phoenix Chamber. Winners were recognized on May 13, 2021, at the virtual 34th annual IMPACT Awards ceremony.

“It’s a great honor for the Council to be acclaimed as an innovation leader across Greater Phoenix,” said Steven G. Zylstra, the Council’s president and CEO. “These awards are a testament to the great work our dedicated staff, board members and community partners are doing to help make Arizona the fastest-growing technology hub in the nation.”

The Council was selected for the significant impact it has made on the state’s technology industry by fostering a climate of innovation, creativity and community. One way this is achieved is through the Council’s quarterly AZ Technology Industry Impact Report, which reveals key insights into the state’s growth and trends in the technology industry. In 2020, the Council also launched AZTechBase, an online platform that integrates key data from the Impact Report, and provides a comprehensive listing of companies, people and investors in Arizona’s technology sector.

Both the Council’s Impact Report and AZTechBase serve to:

  • elevate the state’s technology ecosystem by providing accurate, current datasets and making the data easily accessible to the community;
  • offer vital information with normalized data to determine trends and patterns;
  • organize data and industry insights; and
  • provide a virtual environment for the technology, media, business and economic development communities to stay informed on the current technology landscape.

The Council’s hands-on approach to public policy has also helped position Arizona as a pro-growth, pro-business and technology-focused state. The organization continually informs and educates policymakers on issues that are important to Arizona’s technology community, such as workforce and economic development, education and clean energy. In fact, its staff and members testify before the Legislature and the Arizona Corporation Commission on a regular basis. One result of its public policy efforts in 2020 was partnering with The Western Way to release a report detailing how policymakers can incorporate energy innovation into Arizona’s plan for recovering from the economic downturn caused by the pandemic. A number of the recommendations in “Innovation and Clean Energy Industry Recommendations for Economic Recovery” are already being implemented. The report can be viewed at
