World View, the Tucson-based stratospheric exploration company, has launched the first extended duration development flight of its high-altitude Stratollite vehicle as it partnered with KFC to carry a commercial payload: the new flagship Zinger chicken sandwich.
Starting with World View’s first live broadcast launch in late June, the multi-day mission signaled the market readiness of the first long-duration, navigable stratospheric payload vehicle. The remote controlled, unmanned Stratollite vehicle featured a Stratocraft payload module carried by a system of high-altitude balloons designed to operate along the edge of space.
World View has two additional flights scheduled for this summer. Several other flights with science and research customer payloads are planned before the year’s end. Watch the video here.
