Arizona Board of Regents announces new medical school at NAU
Northern Arizona University is getting a new medical school at its campus in Flagstaff.
The Arizona Board of Regents announced the decision Sept. 29 as part of a call for its public universities to close the health care workforce gap, committing millions of dollars to the effort. The university expects the medical school to prepare the next generation of doctors to meet primary care needs in rural, underserved and indigenous communities across Arizona. This all falls under the AZ Healthy Tomorrow initiative, which will look to rapidly advance the health care workforce in the Valley and elsewhere in the state. Read more >>
SRP board approves system plan strategies to bring customers affordable, reliable and sustainable power
SRP’s District Board of Directors approved power system strategies to be implemented between 2025 and 2035 that prioritize affordability, reliability, sustainability and customer focus. The strategies are outlined in SRP’s new Integrated System Plan, which was developed as part of a two-year, data-driven planning process that incorporated perspectives from Arizona universities, businesses, environmental organizations, limited income advocates, nonprofits and more. KORE Power selects Siemens Xcelerator to optimize production at Arizona gigafactory
Siemens announced that KORE Power, Inc., the leading U.S.-based developer of battery cell technology for the clean energy and e-mobility industries, has selected advanced manufacturing software and hardware from the Siemens Xcelerator open business platform for the KOREPlex. This new 1,330,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility in Arizona will use multiple production lines to produce batteries for electric vehicles (EV) and energy storage systems. Read more >>

Phoenix-based Honeywell Aerospace building 41 Chinook helicopter engines for South Korean military
Phoenix-based Honeywell Aerospace will build 41 engines as part of an order for updated Chinook helicopters for the South Korean military. The company announced the U.S. Army Foreign Military Sales office ordered the T55-GA-714A engines that will power CH-47F aircraft to replace older CH-47D aircraft used by South Korea. The order demonstrates continued confidence from South Korea in Honeywell’s product, the company said. Read more >>
Raytheon to develop what could be military’s next-generation missile propulsion system
The Tucson-based Raytheon missiles and defense operation will be the first to put a new kind of air-breathing missile propulsion unit into a test system under a $29 million contract with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA. Under the deal, Raytheon, which is a division of RTX (NYSE: RTX), will develop a system called Gambit that uses a new rotating detonation engine (RDE), which the company says is more compact and efficient than conventional systems and could cut costs. Global Electronics Co. Opens New Semiconductor Equipment and Services Office in Chandler
EMD Electronics, the Electronics business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany in the U.S. and Canada, celebrated the grand opening of its newest factory in Chandler, Arizona. The opening of the site is part of the “Level Up” growth program announced in late 2021. The factory features a 75,000-square-foot building that doubles the company’s manufacturing capacity in the U.S. to produce equipment for its Delivery Systems & Services (DS&S) business, which provides high-quality delivery and storage of specialty chemicals and gases. ASU and Panama Sign Agreement to Strengthen Cooperation in Advanced Technologies and Microelectronics
Arizona State University and the Government of Panama announced a landmark partnership to propel collaborative efforts in advanced technology and fortify scientific and educational collaborations between Panama and the United States. Signed by ASU President Michael M. Crow and Ramón E. Martínez de la Guardia, the ambassador of the Republic of Panama to the United States representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) follows a July announcement by the State Department and Panama to create a more resilient, secure and sustainable global semiconductor supply chain.
