Meet Bianca Buliga, the Council’s director of marketing + communications

Meet Bianca Buliga, director of marketing + communications at the Arizona Technology Council. In her year of working for the Council, Bianca has become known for her editing eagle eye, sending out Council emails with the latest news and upcoming events and greeting members at Council events with a big smile. Here’s your chance to find out more about Bianca and what led her to her role at the Council!

  • Where are you originally from?

I’m a first-generation American who was born and raised in Phoenix! Both of my parents were born in Romania and my first language was Romanian.

  • Where did you go to school and what did you study?

I graduated from Northern Arizona University in December of 2014 with my bachelor’s in International Affairs and a double minor in Criminal Justice and Spanish. In 2017, I graduated from the Thunderbird School of Global Management with my master’s in Global Affairs and Management.

  • How did you start your career?

During my master’s program, I got an internship with SEED SPOT, a social impact incubator that helps impact-driven entrepreneurs launch and grow their businesses. When I graduated from Thunderbird, I moved to Washington, D.C. and became SEED SPOT’s first full-time marketing hire! After a couple years with SEED SPOT, I moved back to Phoenix and started working at Proctorio, an ed-tech company that offers learning integrity software for educational institutions around the world.

  • How long have you worked for the Council?

A little over a year now.

  • What are some of your role’s primary responsibilities?

I wear many hats! I map out our annual marketing budget, coordinate our monthly AZTechCast podcast, manage our website, post on social media, send out email newsletters, manage our job board and community events calendar, etc. You name it, I probably help out somehow.

  • What do you think is one of the Council’s most impressive perks?

I love that the Council partners with certain in-state educational institutions to offer substantial tuition discounts for AZTC members. This offering applies not only to young people who are beginning their careers, but to mid-career professionals who are looking to switch careers. This is an invaluable tool for anyone who want to upskill or reskill to better their lives and economic status.

  • What do you love most about working for the Council?

The community. The Council convenes the most interesting, hard-working and innovative changemakers from across Arizona and I truly enjoy attending our events and meeting people from so many different walks of life.

  • What are some of your favorite hobbies?

When I’m off the clock, I enjoy going to yoga classes, thrifting, cooking, reading, kayaking, hiking, camping and going on road trips. I also just recently adopted an adorable two-month-old Australian cattle dog named Mila who loves snuggling and chewing on all of my furniture.

  • Where is your favorite place that you’ve traveled to?

Those that know me best know that I absolutely love international travel! Some of my favorite places have been Istanbul, Turkey; Reykjavik, Iceland; and Lima, Peru.

  • What are your favorite things to do in Phoenix?

I love going to the farmer’s market in Uptown Phoenix, having some ramen at Clever Koi, enjoying a cocktail at Rough Rider, spending a few hours reading at Burton Barr Library or watching a sunset at Granada Park.

  • What is one little-known fact about Bianca Buliga?

I’m actually a decent singer. When I was in grad school, I was the lead singer in a jam band that mostly played Red Hot Chili Peppers covers.
