The U.S. Navy has awarded Ridgetop Group a contract for the Tucson company to use its experience in advanced diagnostics to provide a solution for managing the lifecycle of gyroscope subassemblies used in the Navy’s nuclear ballistic missile submarines.
As part of navigation systems, gyroscopes maintain orientation. Ridgetop is tasked with evaluating degradation of the electronics in gyroscopes and creating ways to preserve these components that ultimately are crucial to the nation’s nuclear deterrent capability.
Ridgetop was selected over other applicants competing for funding through the Navy’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. It previously completed projects for NASA and the U.S. Air Force in addition to the Navy.
