Average participating household has saved over $8,000 on energy-efficient home upgrade costs

The Arizona Governor’s Office of Resiliency announced its Efficiency Arizona program has provided $2,012,144 in rebates for highly efficient appliances and HVAC equipment to income-eligible Arizona households, delivering long-term bill savings for Arizona families.

Efficiency Arizona has provided 523 rebates to Arizona households across the state, totalling 275,641 kilowatt-hours in energy savings so far. More than $1.5 million in these investments has gone to low-income households.

“The Efficiency Arizona program helps families achieve the Arizona Promise by delivering home upgrades that will lower their monthly utility bills,” said Governor Katie Hobbs. “Energy bills can be one of the largest expenses Arizonans pay each month. Efficiency Arizona is helping Arizonans stay in their homes and live comfortably year-round.”

Since the program was launched in late 2024, Efficiency Arizona households have, on average, saved more than $8,000 in total project costs, with additional cost savings reported in their monthly energy bills after rebate project completion.

“This is a key milestone for Efficiency Arizona, which is still a new program. We are leading the nation in administering rebates for essential home appliances like heat pumps,” said Governor’s Office of Resiliency Director Maren Mahoney. “What’s important for Arizonans to know is that funding is available through 2029 for eligible households to upgrade their home and save on their energy bills.”

To help more Arizonans find out if they are eligible for the Efficiency Arizona program, the Governor’s Office of Resiliency launched a new resource, the Efficiency Arizona Eligibility Screening ToolThis digital tool is a user-friendly resource on EfficiencyArizona.com that can quickly determine if a household qualifies for home energy rebates before beginning an application. The tool is a preliminary screener that helps households see rebate coverage that may be available to them. Official eligibility is confirmed during the formal application process.

“When Arizona got its Efficiency Arizona program going, I was able to replace my aging HVAC system. My rebates covered $10,000 of the $14,000 cost for my new heat pump system and installation. Good deal. As a result, my monthly gas and electric costs have dropped from about $200 previously to about $70 monthly over the past year. Another good deal,” said Garth Oldham, an Efficiency Arizona participant in Buckeye. “In addition, I get to kinda slap myself on the back for greening up our world a little bit. Overall, a GREAT deal.”

“Efficiency Arizona feels life-changing and hope-planting. Thanks to the rebate upgrades, I am in a dependably, efficiently-cooled home, with safe components and wiring. I am not awaiting that giant monster disaster that seemed ever-looming,” said Ed Tobin, an Efficiency Arizona participant in Tucson. “I can actually stay in the home I love, and look forward to the years to come here. Efficiency Arizona has given me a path and peace of mind that was not available previously.”

“The Efficiency Arizona rebate made it possible for me to afford heat pumps for my house. Now, I have heat in the winter without having to lug and burn three tons of pellets, and I have air conditioning in the summer,” said Paul Boward, an Efficiency Arizona participant in Williams.

“Advantage Home Performance is grateful for the opportunity to participate in the new Efficiency Arizona program. It’s been especially rewarding to help eligible Arizonans access substantial rebates—sometimes offsetting 75% to 95% of the cost of a new heat pump and other efficiency improvements. Many customers have also seen their utility bills drop by up to 35% and have experienced a dramatic improvement in comfort. It’s truly an outstanding program,” said Mike Uniacke, owner of Advantage Home Performance, an Efficiency Arizona qualified contractor.

Efficiency Arizona rebates are available for the following qualified products and building materials:

  • Heat pumps for heating and cooling
  • Heat pump water heaters
  • Heat pump dryers
  • Electric cooking appliances
  • Insulation, air sealing, and ventilation
  • Electric wiring
  • Electric load service upgrades

Efficiency Arizona approved applicants can use a qualified contractor to complete their rebate-eligible work, or they can purchase qualified products through a participating retailer.
