Southern AZ Tech + Biz Expo Provides Unique Interactive Virtual Experience

The 8th Annual Southern Arizona Tech + Business Expo was a great success!  Thank you to all who sponsored, presented, exhibited, and attended.

We kicked off with networking at the beach:

Then we heard from leaders in information technology, quantum internet, digital signal processing, and our keynote presenter from Raytheon told us what they’ve been up to.

To see Roy Donelson, Senior Director – Strategic Engagement Systems for Raytheon Missiles & Defense, discuss the formation of the business, the technology collaborations with the University of Arizona and local suppliers, and workforce development please click HERE.

Every year we honor four Southern Arizona companies with our Annual Awards.  Yakov Sidorin from Quarles & Brady, presented our awards this year.  To see the award presentation click HERE.

Here are this year’s recipients:

After the awards we heard from Asif Shahidullah, Electrical Engineer from Rincon Research Corporation.  Asif presented “Impacting the Future of Digital Signal Processing” to our audience.

Rincon Research Corporation has been a world leader in radio frequency, or RF, signal analysis for more than 35 years. They have a reputation for solving complex problems with advanced solutions, primarily using digital signal processing techniques like geolocation. With a growing expertise and hardware presence in the SmallSat domain, RRC is helping more customers complete challenging SmallSat and space missions. Their broad-based expertise allows them to assist with on-board processing, orbit analysis, communication link design, space mission data processing, and CubeSat payload hardware development.  They respectfully asked that the presenters video not be made public.

Next, we heard from AJ Kuftic, Principal Technologist for Expedient, who presented What is Cloud Native?”.

As developers want to make their applications more cloud native, balancing the new with the legacy becomes a challenge. How do you handle your current operations while beginning to move your applications forward? AJ explained the challenges facing the business and how a cloud native platform can accelerate the modernization of your applications while maintaining the compliance and security the business expects. To see AJ’s presentation please click HERE.

And finally, Dr. Saikat Guha, Associate Professor and Director of the Center for Quantum Networks at the University of Arizona’s Wyant College of Optical Sciences presented “Building the Quantum Internet.”

The University of Arizona was recently awarded a $51M ten-year grant by the National Science Foundation to establish the “Center for Quantum Networks” to architect the quantum internet, in collaboration with MIT, Harvard, Yale and six other university partners. Dr. Guha discussed how the quantum internet and associated quantum-information technologies will impact our lives, and about the University of Arizona’s campus-wide initiative on establishing the new discipline of Quantum Information Science and Engineering (QISE) that spans multiple colleges and departments. To see Dr. Guha’s presentation please click HERE.

After our presentations, we met in the Expo Hall and visited all the virtual booths:

And after the Expo Hall, we relaxed on the Beach for more networking, dance contests, and watching the fireworks:
