TSMC Arizona now produces Nvidia’s next-gen Blackwell chips for AI, supercomputers

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. is ramping up production of Nvidia‘s next-generation Blackwell chip wafer at its sprawling north Phoenix complex.

The companies convened at TSMC Arizona on Oct. 17 to tout the volume production of the Blackwell GPUs, which are essential for artificial intelligence and super computer development, said Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang. Huang said Nvidia will be investing $500 billion into the United States to develop semiconductor infrastructure.

When asked during the visit how many chips will be made in Arizona, Huang said, “We’ve ordered in the millions.”

“The entire supply chain necessary will be built in the United States,” Huang said. “For the very first time in American history, the single most important chip will be manufactured in TSMC Arizona.”
