Meet Jamie Neilson, director of operations for the Council’s Southern AZ office

Meet Jamie Neilson, director of operations for AZTC’s Southern Arizona Regional Office. In her four years of working for the Council, Jamie has become known for coordinating seamless events and creating strong relationships with members of the Tucson community. Her best kept secret? She has the hook up for your favorite Girl Scout cookies! In this month’s profile, we’re interviewing Jamie to learn more about her role.

Where are you originally from?

I was born in Lansing, Michigan but grew up in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Where did you go to school and what did you study?

I went to Montana State University – Bozeman, where I studied Media & Theatre Arts with a focus in Photography and a minor in Music.

How did you start your career?

I worked in the retail industry for 25+ years before deciding I wanted a change. I then decided to go into event planning!

How long have you worked for the Council?

4 years.

What are some of your role’s primary responsibilities?

My primary responsibilities include event planning, organization and execution, sponsorship solicitations and overseeing a variety of Council committees and subcommittees.

What do you think is one of the Council’s most impressive perks?

The variety of programming (events, committees, programs, etc.) we offer to our members.

What do you love most about working for the Council?

I love what I do – I enjoy the process of organizing and executing events and watching the members enjoy attending those events.

What other organizations are you involved with outside of your 9-5?

AZ Bleeding Disorders (formerly the AZ Hemophilia Association), Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona and the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.

What are some of your favorite hobbies?

Reading, swimming, shopping.

What are your favorite things to do in Tucson in your down time?

I love to play with my daughter at the park and occasionally go for a hike.

What is one little-known fact about Jamie Neilson?

My husband, Matthew, and I share the exact same birthday (month, date, and year).
