World View Enterprises, Inc. announced in January 2016 that World View flights will be hosted from the newly approved Spaceport Tucson, located in southeastern Arizona. Construction is set to begin on the spaceport and new company headquarters. Engineering, development, testing, balloon and payload manufacturing will all occur in this centralized location dramatically reducing development and operating costs.
World View’s new global headquarters and Spaceport Tucson were made possible because of the company’s successful partnership with the State of Arizona, Pima County and the City of Tucson. The collaboration between these agencies has launched Arizona into the booming industry of commercial space. World View will continue to work with the state, county and city to make Southern Arizona a hub for the space technology industry and enhance the region’s economy.
World View announced on February 23, 2016 that former NASA astronaut Ron Garan has been chosen as Chief Pilot. Garan became an astronaut in 2000 after a career as a highly decorated Air Force fighter pilot. In 2008 he flew to the International Space Station with a return five month trip in 2011.
At World View Enterprises, Inc. their vision is to unlock a new era of accessible exploration at the edge of space. World View is pioneering exploration with its proprietary high-altitude balloon-flight platform, already offering a fully operational unmanned flight system that will drastically disrupt access to space for commercial and government applications, and building a manned flight system that launches in just a few years that will take Voyagers (be they private individuals or those traveling for research, educational or other scientific pursuits) on the journey of a lifetime.
