The Phoenix Metropolitan area is one of four U.S. sites for the early rider program of Waymo, a self-driving technology company built on software and sensor technology developed in Google’s labs.
The program is the first public trial of Waymo’s self-driving cars. Riders use its fleet of vehicles to do everything they normally would do with a primary or secondary vehicle then provide feedback to help shape the future of how the vehicles will operate.
Besides Phoenix, the three other cities currently involved in the test program are Austin, Texas; Kirkland, Wash.; and Mountain View, Calif. To be considered as a participant, applicants must be at least 18 and apply at waymo.com/apply.
