Anvita Gupta, a senior at BASIS Scottsdale school, was named a winner in the annual International BioGENEius Challenge at the 2015 BIO International Convention recently held in Philadelphia.
Her project “Novel Therapeutics for Genetic and Infectious Diseases: Drug Discovery Targeting Intrinsically Disordered Proteins” in the Johnson & Johnson Innovation Global Healthcare Challenge (medical biotech) seeks to create a new framework for drug research and discovery to help speed up and reduce the cost of therapeutic creation for diseases like cancer, tuberculosis and ebola.
The student was among 28 finalists from across the United States, Canada and Germany who competed for top honors and cash prizes of $7,500 each. Earlier, she was named a Future Innovator of the Year at the Arizona Technology Council’s 2013 Governor’s Celebration of Innovation for her team project “Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma.”
