May is National Moving Month, and for many families and businesses moving can cause some headaches, even without the crisis caused by Covid-19 pandemic. Muscular Moving Men, a Valley residential and commercial moving company, has seen its bottom line taken it on the chin but workers seem energized and pumped up for the task ahead. The company’s commercial moving arm is known as M3 Commercial Moving & Logistics.
Founder Justin Hodge says his revenue is down 25% year-over-year, since the shelter in place order Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey enacted in March. Late spring is normally a very busy time for movers as families with school-aged children tend to time their moves for when school ends, and for most of Arizona that’s mid-May.
“Sixty percent of the moves in this country happen in this timeframe. Right now you’ve got kids getting out of school and families waiting to uproot until you get that May to August timeframe, and so we’re confident coming into May, June, July that it is going to pick up, and we’re seeing that May seems like it’s trending upward,” said Hodge.
The Phoenix Business Journal was given a behind-the-scenes look as to the changes that M3 has since made to protect both staff and the clients during the pandemic. Hodge said that many of the new changes were inefficient at first, but the kinks have since all been work out.
“I didn’t think that this would be a permanent part of our business going forward, but I think a lot of it has, you know, drawn focus to safety even more than we already were thinking about it, so everything is the cleanest that’s ever been,” said Hodge about the new additional precautions taken.
