Three of the Maricopa Community Colleges have been named recipients of Science Foundation Arizona’s Development of Sustainable Middle Skills Internship Programs grants of up to $21,000 each to assist in building or expanding student internship opportunities with local business and industry. The schools and their plans for the grants are:
- Estrella Mountain Community College’s grant will support the building of an internship program within the college’s new Engineering Institute. Business partners include Intel, cities of Goodyear and Buckeye – Engineering Departments, and Axus Technology.
- Mesa Community College’s Arizona Advanced Manufacturing Institute’s grant will be used to attract students into manufacturing careers using a framework to institutionalize internships and create a structured, supportive experience. Industry partners include Dexcom, GM and Hawkeye.
- Yavapai College with its main campus in Prescott will build out its advanced manufacturing internship program to students pursuing electronics, 3D printing, welding, diesel technician, and automotive technician certifications.
