Women in the Workforce – Lady Leaders: How to Thrive in a Male-Dominated Industry

Female leaders face many challenges that their male counterparts don’t experience, and must often work harder to be taken seriously as a boss. As successful business owners, our panelists can all attest to the roadblocks that females can face in male-centric environments. The panel will be moderated by Sheila Kloefkorn, CEO of KEO Marketing

Jenny 210x210Jenny Poon – Co-Founder of CO+HOOTS, named 2016 Businessperson of the Year by the Phoenix Business Journal.

Jenny grew up working in parents’ Chinese-Vietnamese restaurant and learned the value of hard work at a young age, waiting tables, washing dishes, and helping where and whenever she could. In her own career, Jenny has started multiple businesses including graphic design firm eeko studio, Fresh Words Market, and Phoenix’s top co-working space, CO+HOOTS.

Shawn Linam – Co-Founder + CEO of Qwaltec, Inc.

Qwaltec provides high-quality aerospace systems engineering, mission readiness, and technical training services. A woman in a man’s world, Shawn has extensive experience in space systems operations and has implemented training for numerous government and commercial space programs. Shawn is the STEM Director for the Girls Rule Foundation, a leader in empowerment, leadership, and educational workshops for girls aged 12-18. 

Olenka Cullinan – Founder + CEO of Rising Tycoons, TEDx Speaker, millennial leader, featured in Passionistas.

Olenka moved the United States from Russia with $450 in her pocket at the age of 19. She has since risen to success, paying for both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and building Rising Tycoons, an organization that helps teen leaders become CEOs of their own lives. She is the National Program Director for Base 11 STEM Entrepreneur Accelerator Program and has  pioneered the Backbone of Success™ method which combines leadership, entrepreneurship, and personal development. Karin Harris – President + Owner of eGreenIT Solutions, LLC

Karin’s professional background began in the telecommunications industry in 1990, and over a two-decade period, she was intricately involved in systems engineering that evolved into an award-winning career. While immersed in telecom, she was saddened by the irresponsible approach to the disposal of e-waste Entering a career that was predominantly run by men did not intimidate her, for throughout her storied career in Information Technology she has held her own with ‘The Guys’.

Sheila founded her Phoenix-based marketing agency in 2000. She moved to Phoenix from Wyoming to run student programs for ASU and soon became a VP of Operations and Media for a large adverting agency at just 27-years-old. 

She was recently named one of the “Top 10 Business Leaders of the Year” and “Top 25 Dynamic Women in Business” by the Phoenix Business Journal
