Optics Valley Technical Series: Manufacturing Custom Optical Components

Register

Optical modeling software packages like Zemax and CodeV are great tools for the design and optimization of custom optical systems. This talk will help you take the next step – how to manufacture those custom optics.

Dr. Kate Medicus, CEO for Ruda Cardinal, will talk about the key aspects of lenses that make for easy manufacturing (and metrology) and those that make it difficult. She will review optical prints, the standards that apply to optical prints, and discuss what information should be on a print. She will briefly talk about tolerancing an optical element. Finally, she will end with an overview discussion on the next steps – how can you get a lens made, how do you hold the lens, and how do you put it all together?

Ruda-Cardinal, Inc. (RCI) takes your engineering concepts and delivers a final product customized to your specifications and you retain ownership of the design. Their engineers are experts in producing manufacturable designs for all environments from the ocean, to the desert, and outer space.

Optics Valley, a committee of the Arizona Technology Council, is one of the leading clusters for optics, photonics and astronomy in the world. Optics Valley’s mission is to catalyze, convene and connect optics, photonics, astronomy and the supporting business interests throughout Arizona.
