The Arizona Technology Council’s MedTech Committee will be holding its May round-table virtually and inviting all members and non-members to join. The topic of this month’s meeting is:

Risky Business: Managing and mitigating risk in Medical Technology

 

Medical Technology can benefit the diagnosis, treatment and management of individual and population health but it comes with risk. The discussion will focus on the risks that should be considered when implementing or using medical technology and how to mitigate the risk. In addition, medtech experts Andrew Maynard and Jason Bagley will discuss how policy can help or hinder the advancement of medical technology.

Event Speakers:
Andrew Maynard, Director, Risk Innovation Nexus
Andrew Maynard is a professor, writer and leading expert on emerging technologies and the future. He is the director of the Arizona State University Risk Innovation Nexus – an initiative which is bringing a unique approach to successful, responsible and ethical innovation in a rapidly changing world. His book “Films from the Future: The Technology and Morality of Sci-Fi Movies” explores ethical and socially responsible innovation through the lens of twelve science fiction movies, and his forthcoming book “Future Rising” (released June 16,2020) examines humanity’s relationship to the future, and its responsibility to it.

For over twenty years, Maynard has worked closely with experts and organizations from around the world on socially responsible innovation, ranging from nanotechnology and genetic engineering, to artificial intelligence and self-driving cars. Originally trained as a physicist at the University of Cambridge in the UK, Andrew is currently Associate Director of Faculty in the Arizona State University School for the Future of Innovation in Society. He is also Director of the ASU Risk Innovation Lab, and Chair of the ASU Master of Science and Technology Policy.

Jason Bagley, Senior Director, State Government Relations at Intel Corporation
Jason Bagley is a 30-year public affairs professional with extensive experience guiding organizations through issues management, stakeholder engagement, strategic communications, and reputational risk. Recognized thought leader, skilled communicator—including crisis communications, and influencer.
As director of state government relations, he is responsible for Intel’s public policy initiatives across a 50-state region. He directs political, legislative and regulatory strategies and initiatives that support and enhance Intel’s business objectives throughout the United States.

Bagley served a 13-year career as a Public Affairs Officer (captain) for the U.S. Army. He led a five-person public affairs team during the initial deployment of U.S. forces into Bosnia in support of Operation Joint Endeavor, where he established the public affairs mission for a combat armored brigade. He was named by the Arizona Capital Times as 2019 and previously 2009 Business Leader of the Year in Public Policy as well as the 2011 Advocate of the Year by the Arizona Manufacturers Council. Bagley is a graduate of the University of Utah in Political Science and holds a Master of Organizational Management degree from the University of Phoenix.
