There is a feeling that all entrepreneurs get, a feeling that we are somehow unprepared for every meeting. This feeling can be debilitating. It is the entrepreneur’s internal ambition constantly strategizing, questioning and reorganizing all of the brilliant ideas we have. This constant questioning of ourselves, this intense criticism, this continuous process of wanting to be one step ahead of where we are is what makes us great. What happens when you walk into a room with this feeling? What are we portraying to people by always believing that there is a better way? How do we combat the potential to come off as insecure?
We read every relevant article. We talk to people smarter than ourselves. We seek out opportunities to learn from the experts on whatever topic we need to learn. We prepare.
A key point of preparation is gaining an understanding of business itself. Regardless of what industry you are in, the core of every business is simply money. Our global economy is based on monetary transactions. As a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), I am the gatekeeper for financial records, planning, tax compliance, financing and pretty much anything having to do with financial transactions. Historically, businesses operated in a more structured environment. The rules are changing.
Every entrepreneurial-minded businesses person, whether they own their own business or not, should understand the shifting business environment. A solid understanding of legal entities versus tax entities, of what professionals are available to help, and of the traditional and the new forms of financing is paramount. Walking into a business meeting with solid foundational knowledge can make a world of difference.
August’s Women in the Workforce event will arm you with this business knowledge to be the business badass you know you are. For entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs-to-be, join High Rock Accounting and the Arizona Technology Council for this valuable Women in the Workforce event.
