Big data can mean big costs, especially when infrequently accessed data needs to be stored. A new answer is SageCloud created by Rorke Global Solutions (RGS), a business unit of Avnet.
RGS Cold Storage powered by SageCloud is designed for petabyte-scale data centers that need to keep archival and backup data for such markets as financial services, entertainment and cloud services. A beta version was recently unveiled.
The real savings for IT managers is expected starting in April when it become widely available as the first fully integrated, certified and tested rack-level solution in cold storage. It will allow data to be stored for the monthly cost of 1 cent per gigabyte, lower than any other disk-based solution.
