In recognition of the 50th anniversary of the Flinn Foundation and to honor its namesake, a $1 million gift has been made to Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix to establish a cardiology fellowship program.
The grant establishes and permanently endows the Dr. Robert S. Flinn Cardiology Fellowship Program to support promising new physicians who, after completing three-year internal-medicine residencies, will spend another three years training in interventional cardiology, which will include a research project.
Cardiologist Flinn was affiliated with St. Joseph’s Hospital for about five decades, holding leadership positions there and later maintaining an office there. The Foundation’s first grant to the hospital was made in 1965 for five cardiac-arrest carts and two electrocardiogram units.
